HIGH COAST WINTER TRAIL
EQUIPMENT FOR THE
HIGH COAST
WINTER TRAIL
Do you dream of experiencing one of Sweden’s most beautiful natural areas in its winter glory? The High Coast Winter Trail is a race that combines adventure with spectacular scenery, and with the right equipment and preparation, there’s a distance for everyone.
Here you’ll find valuable tips on how to plan your gear and packing to make your experience both safe and memorable. Before signing up, be sure to also review the Rules & Mandatory Equipment.
GEAR FOR WINTER TRAIL RUNNING
BASE LAYER TOP
Wool is a great option.
WINDPROOF PANTS / TIGHTS
There are several options to choose from. If it’s cold, thermal base layer bottoms can be a good choice.
WINDPROOF JACKET
Make sure your jacket protects you from the wind while still allowing moisture to escape.
HAT & GLOVES
Consider bringing an extra pair in case they get damp from sweat.
RUNNING BACKPACK
Pack your backpack in advance and try going for a run with it to make sure it feels comfortable.
RUNNING SHOES
Good traction makes a big difference.
3. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT & DROP-BAG
3a. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT ON YOUR BODY
- Base layer shirt
- Wind jacket
- Race bib (to be attached to your chest or leg, provided during check-in)
- Wind pants/tights
- Hat or insulated buff
- Gloves
- Running shoes
Keep an eye on the weather forecast before the race. The above clothing is mandatory, but how individuals react to cold weather can vary. It may be a good idea to bring a warming mid-layer as well.
3b. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT IN YOUR BACKPACK
- Backpack
- Lightweight insulating jacket that can be worn at the start or in case of injury. *For example: Women: Haglöfs Essens Mimic Men: Haglöfs Essens Mimic
- Extra base layer shirt
- Map (provided during check-in) – it's a good idea to bring a plastic sleeve
- First aid kit and elastic bandage
- Mobile phone with the number of the race management*
- Sunglasses
- Container for at least 1L of liquid
- Whistle
- Headlamp
- Energy (in any form)
- Electrolyte replacement (e.g., Resorb)
- Toilet paper and plastic bag
* The insulating jacket is meant to keep you warm in case of injury. A thin wind jacket is not an insulating garment and therefore does not count as an insulating jacket. In the event of an injury, this jacket should be used until help arrives, making it essential for both your comfort and the safety of you and other participants.
** Sunscreen is not included in the mandatory equipment, but we recommend that you apply sunscreen before the race starts if the weather is sunny.
3c. DROP BAG
You can leave clearly labeled luggage with your name and start number at FriluftsByn between 07:00 and 09:00. You can access your bag at the South Entrance from 09:00 to 16:00. The bag will then be transported back to FriluftsByn. See more information in Participant PM.
DRESSED RIGHT FOR YOUR ADVENTURE
For maximum comfort, start with a good base layer and add a wind- and water-resistant jacket. Pack a mid-layer and an extra insulating layer in your backpack. Wear the mid-layer when temperatures drop, and put on the insulating layer during breaks.
The Haglöfs L.I.M Series is an excellent choice for the High Coast Winter Trail, combining low weight with breathable, insulating performance.
What should you consider when choosing what to wear? We meet Per Jonsson from Haglöfs, who shares his advice on how to stay comfortable and make the experience even more enjoyable.
