PARTICIPANT PM
Here we’ve gathered everything you need to know before the High Coast Winter Trail. You don’t need to keep track of a bunch of emails or mailings – everything is here. However, it’s a good idea to join the Facebook Group ”High Coast Trail Runners” for lots of motivation, reminders, and tips before the event. You can find more about travel and accommodation under preparations and the rules, including mandatory equipment, under rules.

THE BASICS
- Before heading out on any of the distances, you’ll need to check in. You’ll find the check-in times for each race listed below.
- Twin Peaks and Three Peaks kick off from FriluftsByn, while Classic, Extreme, and Insane have bus transfers to their respective starting points.
- For your safety, each distance has designated cut-off points. This means the course will close after a certain time. Don’t worry, High Coast Winter Trail has generous cut-off times, but any participants arriving after the cut-off will need to exit the race and will be transported back to FriluftsByn.
- All distances finish at FriluftsByn, so that’s where the adventure ends – hopefully with a big smile and an even bigger sense of accomplishment!

Once you are finished with your drop-bag, place it on the “transport area.” From there, it will be transported back to FriluftsByn at the next available time. If not placed in the transport area, it will be sent back with the last batch of bags or the next transport after you have finished, but this might take an hour, so make sure to check in and use the bag before placing it in the transport area.
Pick-up: FRILUFTSBYN 14:00 – 20:30
Drop-bags placed for return will be available for pick-up in FriluftsByn between 14:00 and 20:30. If not picked up by then, your drop-bag will be sent to your home address with postage and postal retrieval fees.

START

Participants in Insane, Extreme, and Classic have a rolling start. This means you start at your own pace after getting off the bus and walking the warm-up stretch (about 600 meters) to the starting line. Insane 50k takes the first round of buses, followed by Extreme 35k, and then Classic 25k.
TOILETS
Classic, Extreme & Insane: Toilets are located 3 km from the start, at Tärnättvattnet, Entré Syd, at the Skuleberget Summit Cabin, as well as at the start and finish at FriluftsByn.
Twin Peaks & Three Peaks: Toilets are available at FriluftsByn and at the Summit Cabin.
ENERGY: SKULESKOGEN
The energy station at Skuleskogen National Park is located at Entré Syd (after 10 km). Here, we set up a station where you can refuel with warm energy drink, sausages with bread, energy bars, pickles, and water. If you’re running the 35 km course, you’ll pass the energy station twice, and if you’re running the 50 km, you’ll pass it three times. From Entré Syd, there are 15 kilometers left to the finish.
ENERGY: SKULEBERGET
All participants will pass the energy station at Skuleberget just before crossing the E4. Here, you’ll find energy bars, water, and blueberry soup to give you an extra energy boost before you begin the climb.
DROP-BAGS
Participants in Classic, Extreme, and Insane will have the opportunity to leave a clearly labeled bag between 07:00 – 09:00 on Saturday morning. You can access your maximum 35L bag between 09:30 – 16:00 at Checkpoint Entré Syd. Drop-bags can be picked up at FriluftsByn from 14:00 – 20:30.
MEDICAL CARE
Medical personnel will be stationed at the top of Slåttdalsberget, at Entré Syd, and at the finish line. In case of an injury, they will first use items from your mandatory equipment.
WITHDRAWING FROM THE RACE
You can only withdraw from the race and get transportation back to FriluftsByn from Entré Syd or from the energy station at Skuleberget. Transportation to FriluftsByn will be provided when possible. During this time, you will stay warm using your mandatory equipment and sleeping bags available on-site.
TRASH
Everything you bring with you into nature, you must take back. Trash bins are available at FriluftsByn. A key part of being allowed to host a race through the World Heritage site’s highlights is the requirement that no one leaves trash behind in nature.
CROSSING THE E4 ROAD
The previous section of the High Coast Trail crosses the E4 just before Skuleberget at the Skuleberget energy station. We will have volunteers on-site, but be cautious when crossing the road. Visibility is good in both directions, but cars and trucks may have difficulty spotting you in the dark.
FINISH LINE
The finish line for all distances is at FriluftsByn on the southern side of Skuleberget, the exact same location where you checked in.
AUDIENCE
The best experience for spectators is at the Toppstugan on Skuleberget or at Slåttdalsberget in Skuleskogen National Park:

AFTER THE RACE
The feeling as you approach the finish line, the cheers from the crowd, and the sound of cowbells you’ve been hearing for the last few kilometers. You made it. Let the excitement settle, then it’s time for a shower, and after that, we’ll see you at the After-Trail. FriluftsByn’s Living Room will be open all Saturday, and from 16:00, we’ll transform it for the After-Trail.
FINISH LINE
The finish line is located at FriluftsByn on the southern side of Skuleberget, the same place where the buses departed for the start.
DROP-BAG COLLECTION
If you have left a bag, you can pick it up at the finish line. If you forget to collect your bag, we will send it to you at your expense, along with a 100 SEK administrative fee.
SHOWERS
If you have booked accommodation at FriluftsByn, showers are available near your accommodation as well as in the service building, where all participants can shower. You will need 10 SEK in coins for the shower, which you can exchange in the restaurant Vardagsrummet. If you’re staying at the runner camp, showers are located in the basement of Bygdegården.
AFTER-TRAIL
Between 16:00 and 23:00, we host the After-Trail in FriluftsByn’s Vardagsrum. Don’t miss it! After-Trail >>.
AWARD CEREMONY
Since finish times vary greatly between the different distances, and some finishers may want to head to their accommodations, the award ceremony will take place immediately after the winner of each distance crosses the finish line.
