EXTREME 35k

High Coast Winter Trail – Extreme 35k is an extreme experience in an equally stunning environment – the World Heritage High Coast. To handle this, you should be able to jog several miles in regular terrain. The good thing, however, is that if your body doesn’t respond as expected, you can switch to the Classic 25k, a challenge in its own right. Extreme 35k follows the same three stages as Classic 25k, but with an additional detour to the Mountain loop. This means you’ll pass the energy station at the south entrance twice. The first time after the North to South leg and the second time after Mountain loop, before heading towards Skuleberget via the High Coast trail. You’ll also have the chance to recharge with some blueberry soup before heading up to mount Skuleberget.

FOUR STAGES

High Coast Winter Trail 35k consists of four stages: the three classic stages plus the Mountain loop.
Stage 1. North to South 10k
Extra: Mountain loop 10k
Stage 2. High Coast trail 10k
Stage 3. Skuleberget 5k

CUT-LINES

For your safety and to ensure that everyone returns to FriluftsByn on time, there are two cut-off times for the Extreme 35k. These times are quite generous, and we have yet to need to pull anyone from the course.

13:00: Mountain loop. The opportunity to enter the Mountain loop closes at 13:00. This means you have approximately 4 hours to complete the first 10 kilometers.

16:00: The South Entrance.
By 16:00, you must leave the National Park and be on the second stage, the High Coast trail. This means about 7 hours for the first 20 kilometers. You’ve got this!

18:00: Skuleberget.
The opportunity to enter the third stage, mount Skuleberget, closes at 18:00, and you will be transported back to FriluftsByn. This means you need to complete 30 kilometers within about 9 hours.

START

Most participants check in on Friday evening to get a good start, but you can also check in on Saturday morning before the buses depart for the start. The start is a ”rolling start,” which means your time begins when you pass the start line. You can find all the times in the Participant PM.

Stage 1:

NORTH TO SOUTH: 10k

The first 10 kilometers take you through Skuleskogen National Park, from North to South. You’ll pass Tärnättvattnet, the impressive Slåttdalsskrevan, and the majestic Slåttdalsberget. It’s incredibly beautiful. The stage ends at the aid station at the South Entrance.

The Mountain loop

Extreme 35k (and also Insane 50k) then head out on the the Mountain loop. This loop takes you up to the north-western part of the park and mount Stampberget, where there’s always the most snow. After that, you’ll make a second trip up Slåttdalsberget. It’s simply two mountains with breathtaking views over the World Heritage site.

Stage 2:

HIGH COAST TRAIL: 10k

After passing the energy station at the South Entrance for the second time, you’ll head out on the High Coast trail with mount Skuleberget in sight. Before starting the ascent, you’ll be served blueberry soup to give you a little boost before you make your way up to the top of the World Heritage site.

Stage 3:

SKULEBERGET: 5k

The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking, but the climb up is tough. However, you’ll manage it, step by step. At the top, you’ll often be cheered on by the crowd. Afterward, you’ll descend on the beautiful High Coast trail, all the way down to FriluftsByn.

FINISH LINE

Is it true, am I there? Yes, you sure are! The sound of the cowbells and the cheers from the crowd and fellow participants. This is probably one of the best feelings. Now, a refreshing drink and a shower await you. Then, we’ll meet up at the After-Trail. You’re amazing!

The morning after, looking up at Skuleberget and seeing the tracks where we all made our way down before the finish line.
