Malin Wermelin, Sundsvall

CLASSIC 25k

High Coast Winter Trail – Classic 25k is a truly amazing experience for those who can jog at least about 10 kilometers and are willing to take on a real, exciting challenge while experiencing some of Sweden’s most beautiful landscapes with others.

It may very well be the toughest race you’ve done, but thankfully, you have 10 hours to complete the course, giving you plenty of time to stop, catch your breath, and enjoy the breathtaking views.

THREE STAGES

High Coast Winter Trail Classic 25k consists of three stages
Stage 1: North to South 10k
Stage 2: High Coast trail 10k
Stage 3: Skuleberget 5k

You will also find a larger aid station between stages 1 and 2, and be able to recharge with blueberry soup before stage 3.

CUT-LINES

For your safety and to ensure that everyone returns to FriluftsByn on time, there are two cut-lines for the Classic 25k. These times are quite generous, and we have not yet had to pull anyone off the course.

16:00: South Entrance. If you haven’t covered the first 10 kilometers in about 6 hours, you will be removed from the course and given a ride back to FriluftsByn.

18:00: Skuleberget.
If you haven’t covered the first 20 kilometers in 8 hours, you will be removed from the course and given a ride back to FriluftsByn.

START

You check in on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before the buses depart for the start. The start is a ”rolling start,” where your time begins when you cross the starting mats. You can find all the check-in and bus times here:

Stage 1:

NORTH TO SOUTH: 10k

The first stage takes you through one of Sweden’s most beautiful national parks – Skuleskogen National Park. From Tärnättvattnet, you will run through the legendary Slåttdalsskrevan and across Slåttdalsberget with panoramic views. The stage ends at the energy station at the South Entrance.

Stage 2:

HIGH COAST TRAIL: 10k

The High Coast trail is one of Sweden’s most famous hiking trails, and during the Winter Trail, you will run 10 kilometers of this 128 km long trail. Your first 3 kilometers are along a forest road, before you embark on a delightful, rolling run towards the majestic mount Skuleberget.

Stage 3:

SKULEBERGET: 5k

The final test of strength and the biggest challenge of the race – the mighty Skuleberget, the highest mountain in the High Coast. The Northern trail leads you up to the summit at 295 meters above sea level, where you can gaze out over the World Heritage site before taking the incredibly beautiful High Coast trail down to the finish line at FriluftsByn. You did it!

FINISH LINE

The cowbells will be heard almost a kilometer before the finish line, which is located outside the restaurant Vardagsrummet at FriluftsByn. Wow, you did it! Now you face the toughest choice – a beer or bubbly right on the terrace while you’re high on running and not sure whether to laugh or cry – or take a hot shower and then join the celebration.

I would do this race every day of the week! An absolutely incredible experience and what an arrangement and dedication from all the volunteers!
/ Jessica Näsström – 25k

So happy and grateful to have experienced this with so many other happy and friendly people! So beautifully organized and what an amazing nature. I was among the last in the 25km class, but still received by enthusiastic, big-smiling people at the finish line. The only thing I can think of is that I want to do it again. Preferably now!
/ Åsa Rott – 25k

Returned after last year’s premiere. Just as tough, just as demanding, but above all, just as fun. Absolutely wonderful to run in this winter landscape. I’ll be back again, this must be repeated!
/ Agnes Zimmer – 25k

An absolutely amazing experience! I’ve never run this far before and my legs hurt so much towards the end, but it was worth every step. Magical nature. I’ll be back!
